Trying to learn the Thai language for your holiday or extended stay in Thailand? Then you may have noticed it is not always easy to figure out how to exactly pronounce a letter or word. For proper pronunciation of the Thai language it is necessary to learn the Thai alphabet and not only rely on ‘karaoke Thai’.

Akson Thai is a great tool for learning the Thai consonants, vowels, tone marks and numbers. Each character is represented on a flashcard with Thai on the front and English on the flip side.
The Thai side has the Thai character, the full Thai name written in Thai, sound by a native Thai speaker of how the character is pronounced, outline of the drawing order and the character displayed in several different fonts that you might come across.
The English flip side has the pronunciation of the character name in ‘karaoke Thai’ using your choice of the most common and useful pronunciation guide systems, a description of the character, the class of the consonants and the length of the vowels.

Once you think you know the characters, the flashcards can be shuffled to test yourself.

**Differences from Akson Thai Lite**
- No ads
- Full access to all flashcard sets like low/mid/high class consonants, vowels, tonemarks, symbols and numbers
- Ability to shuffle the flashcards
- Ability to loop through the flashcard deck
- Ability to choose from 9 Pronunciation Guide Systems instead of being limited to the (not always complete) Thai Government system
- No annoying alerts asking you to upgrade

Pros and cons of Akson Thai Pro - flashcards for learning the Thai alphabet app for iPhone and iPad

Akson Thai Pro - flashcards for learning the Thai alphabet app good for

I have bought almost every Apps to learn Thai language, to day I Have 94 of them so I can compare LOL. A few are real crap and some are good, after a few are very very good, as far as alphabet is concern I like this one.
I am a teacher for Thai language and recommend this app for my students.... I like that this app shows the thai characters completely. Even some very rarely used characters. The latest update was very good and improved the app a lot. Now everybody can define individually a color code for different classes of consonants etc. Only one last small aspect is forgotten: When you turn the card there is still the old color code for the different consonant classes. Please fix this and it it will be surely a five star app.
Pros: Big letters with picture symbols which you can choose to hide in setting, Setting to change letter colors by the class, Shuffle card function, Audio pronunciation sample, Setting to choose pronunciation symbol Want-to-have features: Mark card and show only the marked ones! Sort card by pronunciation

Some bad moments

My wife loves how much Thai Im learning with just the iPad, but this app is great for learning the alphabet.... My only suggestion would be to re-record the samples, it sounds like there is a bunch of background noise in every sample... Other than that it is a solid app!!
If you are looking for an app to teach you the entire Thai alphabet, vowels, tones & how to write them, then this is the app for you.
Tried several apps to help supplement my Thai classes. This was the easiest and best app used. Pronunciation was great. Highly recommended!
The pronunciation of the letters and vows are clear and easy to understand. There is actually a lite version to sample the app.
This is awesome and worth the money. Pronunciation and tones are great, the way the sections are separated work well for staying organized and on track, and I really like how there are small explanations of some characters/symbols as well as the "sounds like" English word for the vowels. The constants have the picture associated with the word, and Im remembering written Thai numbers because each card has it written in Thai in upper right corner and then in English on the other side. The overview button is great so I can skip to where I want to start studying. Shuffling cards does what it should. And an important feature is how I can choose the pronunciation system (in English) to match my book that I study from because it hasnt been easy to use 3 books/supplements that write the English translation in their own way. Once I conquer the alphabet I can focus on reading mostly the Thai words in my study material. Im glad I found this app!
Hands down the best Thai alphabet app. It has everything. Worth every penny. No competition can even compare. Get it to learn the Thai alphabet!!
